What is Search Engine Optimization?
Search Engine Optimization, often referred to as SEO, is the process of improving the amount of traffic directed to a web site by Search Engines in the Natural Search Results.
The top listings on a typical Search Engine Results Page are achieved by understanding how search algorithms work and what potential visitors may search for, this is done to help match visitors with sites offering the most information about the topic they are searching for.
Some search engine optimization efforts often involve optimizing a site's code, layout, and design structure, without making very noticeable visual changes to visitors, such as incorporating a clean design structure, and avoiding or fixing problems that might keep search engine indexing programs from completely Spidering a site.
Other, more obvious changes include the addition of unique Content on pages that can be easily indexed and read by search engines while maintaining visual appeal to visitors.
Because effective search engine optimization can involve making changes to the Source Code of a site, it is often favorable to incorporate search engine optimization into the preliminary development and design of a site; these sites tend to be more "Search Engine Friendly" and can be more efficiently updated to improve results within the search engines in the long-term.
